Vintage at Goodwood

I would have loved to have gone to Vintage at Goodwood; seeing all the clothes, the amazing styling, the accessories everything....and I kinda did (-ish) with having the internet you really do have the world at your fingertips. I have seen so many street style shots from the amazing event. Ladies and gents dressed in 30's, 40's, 50's clothing is great to look at. I have a feeling that some of the 'vintage pieces' worn may not be authentic vintage pieces but still highly vintage inspired.

So after looking through a ton of images I've picked a few of my favourites.

This is very new season prada: the beehive, the pattern on the clothing..the yummy clasp ladylike bag. Love the look.


This 60's look is very now too, very 'The like' bands' styling, if you check out my past post you can see the massive resemblance.


I love the silhouette of this dress and the natural colour tones in the ornate pattern are stunning too. The hair accessory is gorgeous and very 1950's.


I love this womans look, the bottle green beret, the pencil skirt, the ladylike handbag..very french working girl.

Jason Bell: An Englishman in New York

I picked up the paper today and saw a great article that ticks all my boxes.

New york. Photography. Britishness. People. Portraiture.

The article and interview discussed Jason Bell's photography exhibition at The National Portrait Gallery (from 24th August), showcasing his beautiful imagery of british people/celebrities who have moved to New York to fulfil their childhood dream.

Sitters include the likes of Kate Winslet, Jana Kennedy, Hamish Bowles, Sean Kavanagh-Dowsett (an englishman, who looks slightly italian) who owns A Salt and Battery fish 'n' chip shop and the Tea and Sympathy cafe. It was in this specific cafe that Bell was working in, on a shoot and thought of the ideas surrounding British people moving to the 'capital of the world' and decided to pursue this through his photography, resulting in this exhibition. From the images in the newspaper, the exhibition looks like it's going to be exceptional.

So beautiful, naturally.

Who's looking forward to waking up and not having to 'put your face on' before work or uni? I am.

We have seen the natural look before on the catwalk but this season, the natural look looks even more natural, if that makes sense.

'The Row' had a fabulous front row.

The front row has become as much a part of the catwalk show as the clothes: every season the front rows are filled with fabulous people from the industry and it's quite unusual for a first time collection, from a new designer, for the front row to be filled with the likes of Chloë Sevigny and Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan, but then again the Olsen twins are no strangers to the fashion industry.

Fall A/W10 saw the first presented collection from the very chic and stylish Olsen twins, and my my my, their pieces were stunning with a simple but chic elegance. The colour palette was so Olsen (i.e black, navy and white) the collection had a variety of yummy fabrics and many pieces looked as if they had come straight out of the twins' wardrobe. This is great if you like the Olsen twins' style, which I do. I really loved the opening outfit, although quite basic the material, the cut and the added styling accessory, a tan belt tied at the waist, makes the coat a whole lot more yummy. The accessories were few and far between but in terms of accessorising this collection it really was quality over quantity.

'The Like'- The Look of the 60's

With the fact that the fall season has a heavy 1950's influence with a hint of 1960's Brigitte Bardot, the band 'The Like' at the minute are right on trend.

I saw an article in the ELLE preview feature, in the music hot list discussing their new album, out september, named 'Release Me'. The feature had images of the four girl band (originally a trio): the images were really fun and personal, the girls had their photographs simply taken on a passport photo strip. I think this way of photographing is brilliant, the small space to see the character is great because we only see such a small space the subject has to do other things to show us their personality.

The bands look I really like, as mentioned they have a 60's influenced look, Elizabeth 'Z' berg (guitar and vocals) wearing beautifully heavy eyeliner in said image. Their music is brilliant too....can't wait to get their album and flick through the album sleeve whilst listening to 'He's Not a Boy'.

How do you wear yours?

I have so many scarves in my wardrobe: I just think that during winter, when most tend to wear black and plenty of layers to keep the heat in, wearing a scarf can add massive personality to a simple colour palette and silhouette. So when I was sent a yummy email from the Habitually Chic blog, discussing the new Hermes website dedicated to the Hermes scarf, I was stuck looking through the stylish street shots, the amazing fashion imagery and the brilliant styling tips (seen in the knotting cards) to wearing the Hermes scarf.

The website is incredible too and very stylish. I love the interactive pages: all the fashion imagery is really inspirational and the variety of personalities that wear Hermes is amazing. My favourite girl has to be the very stylish DJ, Harley

The leather collar

Whilst reading through the huge Elle september issue, in the ELLE edits feature I saw a gorgeous accessory that one never really thinks of when buying accessories: a detachable leather collar by Alberta Ferretti. Now, being a student I certainly cannot afford to buy such a piece from a Ferretti collection but I would love to find some on the high street. I like simple clothing so adding a collar to change my staple wardrobe would be lush.

Anyone know where I could get one on the highstreet??

Fall A/W Adverts

So the september issues are all showing their lovely covers on every newstand around, I've bought a good few so far and I'm just loving fall A/W adverts.

This season is by far my favourite in terms of clothing, accessories, colours and yummy boots. I'm a winter girl at heart, there's nothing like layered clothing, vintage chunky knit scarves, black everything and coming home to a warm house when your freezing on your commute.

The adverts for fall I prefer: I love the mix of textures in the clothing, it makes the image much more exciting, the products themselves are amazing- huge handbags in black, tan and grey wash oh my...

I've heard it through the grapevine that Kate Moss has decided to jar her jam...no grapes involved.

The jam Moss makes in her Cotswold cottage is from the plum aka the Damson.

She officially is a Damson in this dress.

Fur: Friend or foe?

Today I read a piece from ELLE Collections magazine; a debate discussing fur.

After reading said article I had the most amazing soak in the bath and whilst drifting in and out of heaven I thought about my opinions on fur....

We live in a world where opinions are greatly mixed regarding fur. And while personally I do not choose to wear fur there are instances which some people deem to be more suitable. Holly Fulton stated that she used fur, 'not lightly' for her AW10 collection, but she chose to use fur, suede and leather that was guaranteed as a by-product of the meat industry. This approach generates a use for materials which would otherwise be wasted. The re-use and recycle nature of our society emphasises the advantage of Fultons approach as against the breeding and killing of animals purely for our own vanity.

In the article, the designer Todd Lynn, asks, '...if you believe fur is wrong, why perpetuate the image by wearing a fake version?': While I take this thought into consideration, there are many cheaper alternatives to real fur which don't involve the inhumane treatment of animals but still look phenomenal. While fur is appealing to look at, is intensly insulating and oozes class, is there a need for it when there are almost identical alternatives available?

What do you guys think about fur? Are we ever going to live in a time where fur isn't used at all? Do you wear fur? Are you against fur all together or do you have mixed feelings?

The hairstyle of the season

The Fashion Body

Ever since I have been learning about fashion in university and college, I have loved to learn and understand about the connection between the body and fashion. This is where my love for styling came into practise. So when I was sent in my email, articles from SHOWstudio.com about a current project with collaborations with many creatives, showcasing short films on the webpage about the fashion body, my computer cookies became blocked with SHOWstudio.

The articles are a real good read and the short films are brilliant, my favourite? Gotta be Chest by Alice Hawkins, the model is having a right giggle and the music is fun.

Magnificent Obsession

I very rarely buy American Vogue: just personal preference, yes it's a great magazine for commercial reasons I'm not denying that but if I do buy the magazine, I stick to admiring Grace Coddington's timeless work.

Anyway, the July issue, I bought, mainly because Marion Cotillard graced the cover, looking stunning as ever, but also because of the Peter Lindbergh photoshoot, featuring Ewan McGregor and Natalia Vodianova.

As you may have noticed I love film and I love fashion and this photoshoot really complimented my two loves. The editorial of the shoot specifically: I love the opening page, depicting an almost movie-poster-esque vibe with the text of the story. The clothes were taken from some of my favourite collections of the season, and the fashion image reflecting the 1950's american mom, living in a bedroom community is simply delightful.
