AW10 Wardrobe lusts

I'm really excited about the new season pieces. The trends this season I love too, especially the camel colour palette-it's absolutely gorgeous. Some pieces i'm gonna buy into for AW10 will hint towards the ladylike trend-mainly the box ladylike handbags and some kitten heels but then on a complete opposite I wanna buy a heavy, chunky knit sweater in a nude tone and belt it with a skinny tan belt. I'm gonna buy some key simple knits too and style them with pearls or gold trinket necklaces too. In regards to keeping my feet all snuggly I'm gonna invest in some super soft loafers and some shearling trimmed booties.

What you guys gonna buy into for the new season?

Boxy Lady Leather bag, Topshop, £50

Brown Loafers, River Island, £39.99

Ribbed Tunic, Next, £30

Fine Knit grey sweater, Next, £16

So beautiful, naturally.

Who's looking forward to waking up and not having to 'put your face on' before work or uni? I am.

We have seen the natural look before on the catwalk but this season, the natural look looks even more natural, if that makes sense.

Seen at Thakoon, Marc Jacobs, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Burberry Prorsum.

(if you ladies want to make your natural look look perfect, at the minute The Painted Lady in london has a special price for a combined blow dry and manicure...lets think of it as the natural, bed head look with a bit of polish :)

'The Row' had a fabulous front row.

The front row has become as much a part of the catwalk show as the clothes: every season the front rows are filled with fabulous people from the industry and it's quite unusual for a first time collection, from a new designer, for the front row to be filled with the likes of Chloë Sevigny and Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan, but then again the Olsen twins are no strangers to the fashion industry.

Fall A/W10 saw the first presented collection from the very chic and stylish Olsen twins, and my my my, their pieces were stunning with a simple but chic elegance. The colour palette was so Olsen (i.e black, navy and white) the collection had a variety of yummy fabrics and many pieces looked as if they had come straight out of the twins' wardrobe. This is great if you like the Olsen twins' style, which I do. I really loved the opening outfit, although quite basic the material, the cut and the added styling accessory, a tan belt tied at the waist, makes the coat a whole lot more yummy. The accessories were few and far between but in terms of accessorising this collection it really was quality over quantity.

Fall A/W Adverts

So the september issues are all showing their lovely covers on every newstand around, I've bought a good few so far and I'm just loving fall A/W adverts.

This season is by far my favourite in terms of clothing, accessories, colours and yummy boots. I'm a winter girl at heart, there's nothing like layered clothing, vintage chunky knit scarves, black everything and coming home to a warm house when your freezing on your commute.

The adverts for fall I prefer: I love the mix of textures in the clothing, it makes the image much more exciting, the products themselves are amazing- huge handbags in black, tan and grey wash oh my...

Here's a few of my favourites.

Fur: Friend or foe?

Chanel aw10 (no real fur was used for this collection)

Today I read a piece from ELLE Collections magazine; a debate discussing fur.

After reading said article I had the most amazing soak in the bath and whilst drifting in and out of heaven I thought about my opinions on fur....

We live in a world where opinions are greatly mixed regarding fur. And while personally I do not choose to wear fur there are instances which some people deem to be more suitable. Holly Fulton stated that she used fur, 'not lightly' for her AW10 collection, but she chose to use fur, suede and leather that was guaranteed as a by-product of the meat industry. This approach generates a use for materials which would otherwise be wasted. The re-use and recycle nature of our society emphasises the advantage of Fultons approach as against the breeding and killing of animals purely for our own vanity.

In the article, the designer Todd Lynn, asks, '...if you believe fur is wrong, why perpetuate the image by wearing a fake version?': While I take this thought into consideration, there are many cheaper alternatives to real fur which don't involve the inhumane treatment of animals but still look phenomenal. While fur is appealing to look at, is intensly insulating and oozes class, is there a need for it when there are almost identical alternatives available?

What do you guys think about fur? Are we ever going to live in a time where fur isn't used at all? Do you wear fur? Are you against fur all together or do you have mixed feelings?

Body Talk

I am absolutely loving the label, Vilsbøl de Arce, Fall 2010 designed pieces.

The designers, Prisca Vilsbøl and Pia de Arce, have recently won 'Design Talent of the Year' at the 2010 Danish Fashion Awards, and looking at these pieces and reading about their clientele (including; Lady Gaga and Rihanna) you realise just why.

Their pieces were influenced by the human anatomy: using sumptuios fabrics to resemble bone structures: their fabric choices and colour (mainly black) make their pieces sound harsh but each piece is just beautiful.

Sourced Objects. Still life styling.

So over the last couple of days, I have been rummaging in 20p boxes full of everything from purses to plates, to small plastic boys toys, all in aid for my shoot which is next Tuesday at 3-4pm arghhhh! I have so much to do before the shoot day. I'm planning on setting up a small studio at home with a back drop and playing around with my sourced objects to see what works with what, so then when I get to class this Tuesday I could show our photographer Dave (it also really helps myself) images of the actual set up shots.

Before I left to find all my objects for the shoot, I wrote a list of actual pieces I saw on the Fall 2010 catwalk's- the colour palettes of the accessories, the shapes of the accessories etc...so when I hit the charity shops I wouldn't just go straight to the bag section and spend money and time on myself when I had work to do :S

Today I am going to be heavily customising some pieces I picked up. I read recently '50 Years of Fashion' a book/reference magazine on the 50's style that I am trying to capture (but not forgetting to modernise) for my shoot. In the 50's there were some key accessories that women wore all the time, for wherever they went, even if it was just to the beach, the 1950's lady wouldn't have been seen without these, they include: a hat (pillbox with tulle, feathers, ruched flowers-type of hat and decoration show the personality of the lady); gloves; shoes; clasp handbags and clip on earrings. With these in mind I went searching, I love to look at old things it's nice to feel a little nostalgic at times isn't it, and to know that your putting someone's unwanted things to use, giving them a little life is great.

The pieces that I am going to customise are; the gloves, on the fall 2010 catwalks there were a lot of gloves on many of the shows, yet the gloves I could get a hold of really aren't like the catwalk ones so I am going to customise the gloves by opening the wrist section and making the top part of the glove more looser (as seen on the catwalk); the brown and cream court shoes I have, I'm going to try and attach some lace around the opening of the shoe, as seen at Dolce and Gabbana; whilst on my travels I bought a shower cap to customise and make into a hat so I bought some fabric and I will simply ruche the fabric so it resembles the flower hats as seen at Dolce and Gabbana. I found an almost identical silk scarf from Age Concern and I bought it for £1.85 and it just looks so similar to the print on the Marni catwalk, the colour and the shape of the print-unbelievable.

Hopefully the shoot will look creative and modern and the products will look stylish, I just need to remember that the shoot is an accessories shoot, not a homage to the 1950's.

'Lady' Vuitton. Fall 10.

The Louis Vuitton catwalk show, held in Paris was quite different to that of Jacob's New York show where he showed a successfull return to basics.

Jacobs, along with some other designers this season, celebrated the curvacious lady: the Louis Vuitton show heavily focused on the ladylike look, and referenced the Mad Men style. Designs shown included; many A-line dresses, elbow length gloves (which I may need to research into more for my ladylike still life styling project), exaggerated wide skirts, cutaway outerwear and some softly structured evening gowns. The lady-like look for the fall 2010 collections is one that is key to a variety of designers. As we can see through the designs but also with the choice of models, embraced for their womanly figure.
